Willard666: Demo
10/01/13 || gk
I still haven’t learnt to temper my expectations when it comes to band submissions here. When I saw Willard666’s “Demo” being described as “noise/punk/metal” I leapt on it. I was expecting something along the lines of The Jesus Lizard or maybe even Black Flag but what I got was some very lo-fi death doom. It feels like this demo was recorded by sticking a microphone into a cassette recorder and then placing the microphone on the floor in the middle of the jam room. I also get the feeling that the “noise” description was added after the band heard the resulting recording. The guitars are the loudest in this murky soundscape, the vocals are muffled; the drums are really fucking noisy but completely indistinct and if there is a bass, I can’t hear it. I don’t have a problem with primitive recordings or even just bad production jobs but this is a bit too lo-fi for its own good and borders on the unlistenable.
3/10: Could have been better if a little more care had been taken during recording.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
