Valborg: Barbarian
24/05/11 || revenant
Ex-staffer BigBoi was a big fan of the previous work, which is probably why their follow up was sent to GD. At times this album is an epic monolith, slowly crushing all in it’s path with gargantuan size and power. “Towering Clouds” could not have been a more apt song title. At other times though, this album is a thumb twiddling borefest. Songs tend to drag with their slow scaling riffs, repetitive choruses and songs that just hang around a little longer than necessary. Even the best track on the album, “Samantha Alive”, feels two minutes too long. If they aimed for big, they hit it. It they aimed for gripping, they failed.
6/10: Dronebones and Valborg fans need only apply.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
