Throneaeon: Godhate

26/04/05  ||  Lord K Philipson

When we played in Thronaeon’s hometown Västerås with God Among Insects some time ago I ended up in a discussion with niceguy/guitarist/vocalist Tony Freed about the fact they have changed name from Throneaeon (it’s a bitch to write that name) to Godhate. Throneaeon is a better name by far. After seeing bandmember Jens crashing in our dressing room, pissdrunk de luxe and having Tony throwing his personal Godhate shirt at me for keeps, I knew this is a band I’m going to like (yeah, bribes always work). Personal experiences aside, this could be everything you need to know about this band:

Throneaeon are quite fucken excellent.

But let’s not make it that easy… Throneaeon/Godhate are definitely among Sweden’s finest death metal battalions. I wonder why I didn’t know about this before… You want excellent vocals? Tony delivers them. You want groovy riffs, played topnotch and precise as a fucken Scud missile? Throneaeon delivers them. You want a good production (courtesy of Studio Underground)? Throneaeon’s got that one too. Not only do they have all these important things, they also have some serious fucken death metal cooked up for you, death metal that no fucken fan of death metal could ever deny being anything short of fucken killer. In case you missed it the first time:

Throneaeon are quite fucken excellent.

Parts of Throneaeon reminds me of Vader, and I guess you could get a compliment worse than that. But I prefer Throneaeon over Vader. Where Vader usually ends up having a few boring songs on their albums, these guys would probably not know how to compose something boring. I’m very, very impressed. Can you hear me, fucko’s:

Throneaeon are quite fucken excellent.

You don’t have to be Leif Edling/Einstein to figure out that the drums of Vader are better performed though, and that’s basically my only gripe with this album. Roger’s drums aren’t 100%, but the 90% that they are makes up for it and with the material these guys possess I don’t fucken care too much. I rather have some flaws in them than having it all sounding like the computerized Nick Barker stuff on a Dimmu Borgir album. I have to praise the production a little bit more as I’m running out of coke to snort. The sound is crystal-clear and yet it has a good punch in it as well as a bass that you can hear, which is so important to me. If the moniker-change makes this band suck with the next album I will personally look up Tony and fuck him up with a spoon. You have alot to live up to after this album… Do NOT disappoint me.

There’s only 6 words to use to sum this fucker up;

Throneaeon/Godhate are quite fucken excellent.

7,5 raised horns out of 10.
