Tankard: Thirst

There are a few bands that are as fun and entertaining without being retarded such as Tankard. Die-hard lovers of all things alcohol, especially beer, they have united their love of drinking with thrash metal, and the end result is, well, flawless. Being from Germany and also hailing from 1982, it’s impossible not to notice the blatant elements of classic Deutschland thrash metal in Tankard’s music. It’s very faced paced and in your face, thrash metal just the way it should be.
Actually, “Thirst” sounds a lot more classic and thrashier than some of their more recent albums, like “B-Day” and “Beauty and the Beer”. I would put this somewhere between “Beast of Bourbon” and “Kings of Beer”, which, obvious to say, means it’s real fucking good. Some songs here are real desperate, like “Deposit Pirates”, “Echoes of Fear” and “Zodiac Man”. Others have a slower pace, but an equally epic feel, and I kind of enjoy them even more. “Stay Thirsty”. “Hyperthermia” and “When Daddy Comes to Play” are more along those lines. True, this album is nowhere near as brutal as “Kings of Beer”, “Stone Cold Sober”, or my two favorites, “Zombie Attack” and “Chemical Invasion”, but Tankard still hold their own in the battle of thrash metal bands.
Andreas Geremia’s vocals are a high-point of the album and band for me, as his different approach, more melodic, yet still plenty aggressive, helps to set Tankard apart from their peers.
Good, clean fun thrash metal, the kind to drink a good beer to and not worry about the putrid world falling apart around us.
