Syn:drom: Iconoclasm

16/04/13  ||  Lord K Philipson

These guys have been featured quite a few times at GD, all the way from their demos to their debut album that was released a couple of three years back. Can’t say they floored me with their Americanized death metal the first time around, but hey – there’s always second chances, huh?

And yeah, with “Iconoclasm” they have improved. It’s all the same, only improved. The weird arrangements and off-time signatures are there still. So is the brutality and the fine musicianship. But most importantly: my general non-interest in US-sounding, technical death metal hasn’t changed much over the years, meaning Syn:drom could be the best fucken thing since the dawn of time and I still wouldn’t fucken dig it to the extreme. When it comes to this style, Aeon will always be the undisputed Swedish kings of American death metal.

As I said in the review of their debut disc:

I never understood this kind of death metal where you use 600 riffs in one song, playing each riff for about 3 seconds before switching to another one. When the fuck are you supposed to get a feel for the “tune”? Nope, it just doesn’t go well with me but if you are into this kind of death metal – Syn:drom’s definitely for you.

6,5/10: Check it out. It’ll probably do more for you than it does for me.
