Powderhog: Powderhog

31/01/08  ||  Euthanatos

Well, it seems that after the coming of black metal and the whole Gothenburg thing, now it’s time for party rock’n‘roll to come from Scandinavia. Somewhere along the lines of The Hellacopters and Volbeat is Powderhog, a fun bunch that perform an uncompromising type of rock’n‘roll. There’s really no better way to describe this other than party music. Great stuff to listen to while having a beer with your friends or driving down a highway for a holiday.

I like the ballsy vocals, the slightly heavier than average guitar tone (certainly Jacob Hansen’s touch can be heard here) and the fact that they vary their songs enough so you don’t get bored with fast rock songs all the time. For example, even though everything here is rock n’roll, there’s no denying the fact that “Losing Your Head”, grittier and faster, and “Girl (You’ve Got to Let Me Go)”, with an almost blues feel to it, are completely different tracks, or even “Another Trip” with its 60’s vibe. And that’s all the better for the listener’s entertainment.

Much better than most rock bands that make headlines out of Scandinavia, Powderhog certainly deserve their place in the sun, and hopefully GD is only contributing to Powderhog’s own quest of complete annihilation of shitty music.

Rock on, fellas.

The cover: A chick. No complaining from me.

6 hellacopters out of 10.
