Potergeist: Swampires

02/02/14  ||  gk

As far as idiotic band names go, 2013 had more than its fair share. Potergeist come from Greece and Swampires is the band’s third full length since forming in 2004. What we have here is some really faceless, derivative southern influenced hard rock with some stoner elements. The vocalist can’t seem to decide if he wants to sound like Anselmo, the dude from Creed or the dude from Nickleback and so he does all three at various times on this album and the music backing him up is similarly schizophrenic. Some songs are quite deeply affected by Down syndrome while elsewhere the band peddle some faceless modern radio rock which sounds alright when it’s playing but fails to leave any sort of lasting impression. There really isn’t a lot to recommend here.

3/10: A little bit of everything and it still doesn’t work.
