Nightstalker: Superfreak

21/10/09  ||  Kampfar

Nightstalker made me think of Ricardo Ramirez, Mr. Nightstalker himself, but I’m sorry to report that “Superfreak” has nada of his vicious violence on offer. In any of the songs. This letdown didn’t make me cry, nor shit my pants by sheer surprise, but regardless I not at all understand how a band in Clutch-land found it wise to go for a name portraying them as a gang of serial-killers raping the elderly whilst not busy murdering babies. If you do, please send me a mail I’ll blatantly ignore.

Most of you would know what I’m on about when namedropping Clutch. To those who dont’t: not exactly porn-grind, nor metal, though it would be incredible hard to disagree if anyone argued them guys from Maryland, gathered under a name I have mentioned enough already, to be heavier than all power metal bands combined. I guess the same rings true when talking Nightstalker. Or any other stoner band.

The first thing Nightstalker need to do if they want to take a turn for the better is to fire their vocalist – or kick him in the pelvis and tell him to get better soon. He’s not quite pissing on the music but the moaning quality of his voice gets on my nerves alright. In other words, I think he does nothing to improve upon the semi-groovy, semi-decent riffage courtesy of the non-existent keyboard player. All bullshit aside, the dude on guitar isn’t entirely free of talent, nor does he sound like shit.

No one cares, so all I left to say is this: if you are looking for a lesser version of the very mentioned band from Germantown, do have a fucking riot.
