Neglektum: Blasphemer

12/04/14  ||  sincan

Neglektum, a relatively new Swedish black metal band, have recently released their first full length album “Blasphemer” and who am I to not review this? Well, I tend to do what I want, some of the time, well at least in my own head. Before this full length album, the band released a demo containing some progressive black metal tracks, however on this little fucker we are dealing with pure black metal, nothing more, nothing less. Which usually works better in my book.

Neglektum’s style can be described as riff oriented with an audible bass and some drumming which more fills the purpose than being über technical death machine of rotten man juice. Here and there they change tempos and from a more chaotic to less chaotic form. Thus mixing things up, which works fine if the listener should be able to easily grasp the tracks and separate them from each other. Take Babalon with the, for the genre so typical melodic tremolo riffing which are like drugs to an addict to me. Whereas a track like Begotten son has a little more straight forward approach which sometimes makes me think of Watain and their serpent strings of sodomy and rotten hell. The latter track also gives huge room for the bass (well, remember, I’m talking about a relatively bass hiding genre here).

It must be said that this album is really above average when it comes to shit I have to deal with when being one of a few trve cvlt appreciators here at Global Domination. And to further prove this I can tell you that you need to go through the full album to be able to appreciate some really great tracks like “Death’s curse” or “Infernal declaration of hate”. But who am I talking to, a kid grabbing mass produced “one hit then filler albums”? Probably, but still, mark my word, this band is on to something, and that is a rare gift/curse.
