Miscondücters: Braindead

If this review is going to be as spirited and lengthy as this little EP, it looks to be the most boring and short review ever. The music on this disc is pretty much straightforward punk with a mask built of scraps of the earliest proto-metal. So what you get is simplistic by-the-book monotone riffs, a slightly above average music speed, and a lot of boring tunes. To get the basic idea, take equal parts Social Distortion and extra-early Judas Priest, with a slice of Deep Purple, but turned really boring. That’s the basic recipe for one Miscondücters EP. The guitars are thin and unimpressive, the bass just sort of tags along, and the vocalist sounds way too tame for music that is supposed to be an image of rebellion.

The only thing commendable is the drums, which do more than hit the snare for every two high-hats and a bass kick on every fourth. He throws in very decent fills and gives the EP the only flair you’ll hear in the meager 14 minutes it runs.

And indeed, this review is already running on the skin of its teeth and it must be one of the shortest ever written. All I can really say is, if you’re a huge, huge punk fan, you might visit their MySpace for the heck of it, and see if the drumming can keep you interested. For everyone else, why would you want to be bored for 14 minutes when you can spend it doing something you actually like doing?
