Mhorgl: Heresiarch
16/11/11 || Lord K Philipson
What are the odds that Australian extreme/semi-black metal could possibly be any good? Seriously? It’s not like they have the needed wintermoon, tr00 mountains, grvm forests and necro snow, you know. They have the troll Crocodile Dundee and fucken kangaroos, dammit! Hardly the best inspiration for “extreme” metal. Or so you’d think.
Mhorgl is a bit of a surprise. No, we’re not talking amazing extreme music that would wanna make you carve “Hail Satan!” into your penis, but these guys can handle themselves quite fine. It’s relentless, by-the-book, semi-melodic and quite furious shit, this. The production isn’t too bad either. I blame it all on Hobbs’ Angel Of Death.
Despite their “Lord of the rings” sounding moniker, these guys don’t just look tough, they play some tough metal too. And they do it best when they concentrate on the more black side of metal things. Something I wish they would do more often, coz that’s when they somewhat shine.
6/10: Not all of the material holds a high standard, but when it does – Mhorgl’s on to something. The more rockier parts of the material are just confusing though.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
