Machetazo: Necrocovered
23/12/11 || gk
Fun EP from this long-running Spanish death grind duo. “Necrocovered” is basically 6 covers with a guest vocalist on each song. Chris Reifert does a pretty good job on Carnivore’s “Sex and Violence” with its crossover sound while Johan Wallin of General Surgery sounds positively guttural on Master’s “Pay to Die.” The most interesting cover here is a medley of “Demon (Inside Me)” by Septic Death and “Dying” by Obituary with some guy called Santi from Nashgul on vocals giving the song a raspy death metal feel. Japanese sludge overlords Corrupted get the cover treatment too but Machetazo decide to remain faithful to the original and there isn’t any blasting here. A super fast cover of “Tormentor” with Kam Lee and Darkthrone’s “Skald Av Satans Sol” round out the EP. I’m sure fans of the band will eat this up, and “Necrocovered” is a fun little release but newcomers to the band would probably do better with 2008’s “Mundo Cripta”.
7/10: In a light-hearted fun way.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
