Insult: Axiom

I’ve said it before, but sometimes you just don’t come up with anything remotely funny to say when writing a review. Sometimes there’s just not enough stuff to take a piss on with the band at hand, just becoz the guys responsible wouldn’t know how to blow if their lives depended on it. They just know their shit too well to be a part of the League Of Suck. They don’t even look half as retarded as one would hope for so we could go out of our ways and deal them some nice comments about their appearances. Nope, can’t mock them for that either. Bummer. I guess we just have to concentrate on the music then. So, “let’s get it on!”, as Big John McCarthy would have put it.

You know that there’s a fair chance that you’ll get a decent-to-good effort, both sound and production-wise, when you get a demo from a Swedish band in this time of age. Insult is no different. First off the usual bitching about bands and their monikers… I wouldn’t say that Insult is a killer name for a death metal band. Insultator, Insultory, Insultation – perhaps (yeah, I’m joking, sperm-o), but not just plain Insult. There we go, nice to have that off my chest.

However, Insult’s pissing out some (mostly) American-influenced death metal with a, as expected, good production and interesting enough songs for me to make me dig what I hear. Oh, and there are also some small black metal vibes popping up when you least expect it. I like it when bands hint at other genres but still stay true to what they wanna play.

I also hear some Vomitory here and there (maybe just becoz I really want to), which is nothing but a compliment, though Insult’s got a long way to go before they can compete with the Swedish masters of fucken death metal. Insult’s not doing anything new, and it’s not needed either. They get away with playing their fave brand of music since they obviously possess enough talent to be able to create some nice death metal that makes you nod yer head more often than not.

This is another quality effort from Sweden and if you dig death metal – you’ll dig this. It’s just as simple as that and there’s no need for me to rant away any further. You get the point by now.
