Inferior: Unsoiled

Unleash the vultures will ‘ya!
Ooops! I wasn’t ready for this. I thought it would be some standard melodeath in the veins of In Flames or whatever? No sir, here we are served a warm cup of death-thrash with some strong spunk poured into it. These guys are from Sweden, and they are here to shred. Now and then, there are bands coming along that maybe doesn’t serve up a completely new style or sound, but they do it with finesse and add some of their own flare to it. “Inferior” is of that category. Flying in below the radar (for me anyways), making a sneak attack, infiltrate the scene and suddenly they have built a small fortress that they will defend with fists of steel and sharp guitars.
The first song is a real skull-cracker called “Deserter’s territory” and the intro gets my juices flowing before the verse kicks in and it slows down a bit to mid-tempo. The singer is doing a great job and has that harsh angry, more shouting , growl. The second song “Serpentine roads to decay” follows in a more thrash-galloping manner and the album continues in this trend all the way through (except for a minute long guitar caressing tune in the middle). You get your money well invested in the stock market of thrash and death-thrash, and as the good, well brought up kids they are, they give you all your money in return with interest.
The production is fresh and well handled and it’s a good fat sound, the bass is brought the well deserved attention and the drums sound really well. The twin guitars are in the same caliber and up front with distinct chuggah sounds.
I actually get some vibes of early Sepultura and also Machine Head’s first album. On a side note: Machine Head has only managed to pop one good album, and that’s the first one…yeah I said it. And if these guys stay in those regions, they will be a force to reckon with in this genre. This style requires that youthful energy and kicks, otherwise it becomes pale and uninteresting, and “Inferior” pulls it off with heads up high.
When I look up these fuckers on their Facebook page and their website they state that they “…have one goal, and that is taking a place among the major acts” and that’s of course a good motto and I don’t see that totally impossible. If they continue like this, we can look forward to a couple of more albums, and if they are allowed to tweak their style a little bit as they go along, they have the potential to go far. One pointer though, the songs tend to be a little bit too long. The song “Perish” for example is heavy as fuck, but it clocks in slightly above 7 minutes, it takes down both tempo and interest. And there are songs that are even longer than so, hello “The maker’s waste” – 11:35, keep it shorter to keep the momentum guys. Other than that, there isn’t really much to complain about. This is a really good debut album, and I recommend it to anyone into thrash with those lovely harsher vocals that we all like. Also, love the album cover…
