Emigrate: Emigrate

25/09/07  ||  theProphet

Rammstein guitarist and founder Richard Z. Kruspe releases a solo album! Right, so there’s some other band members as well, but this album is really all about Herr Kruspe. Anyhow, when I got the news I was excited, thinking that as the next Rammstein release isn’t due until 2008, this might help to ease the wait. And as he is one of the main songwriters of Rammstein we should expect some quality stuff here as well, right? WRONG!!!

It all starts of quite nice, “Emigrate” begins with some electronic sounds that turns into a decent Rammstein-esque riff (albeit with a much thinner production, oh, and not as good…), I can feel my cock reacting, but before I can work up even half of a half of a semi-boner, Herr Kruspe starts to sing, and my entire day is ruined. No kidding, this is some of the worst vocals I’ve ever heard. In what is probably an attempt to explain the lack of decent melodies as “industrial robotic vox” or whatever, the vocals are heavily distorted, needless to say it sounds like shit. And as if that wasn’t enough, ze pronunciation sucks really, really bad.

And the fucking lyrics…

Babe
You don’t have to be afraid
In my eyes
Babe
Don’t be ashamed

from the track “Babe”, and:

I wait, but can you see what’s wrong?
Like you I fell into the problem
Had faith in everything to pay
I don’t believe what you say

from “Wake Up”.

Y’all get the idea… fucking laughable.

Songwriting-wise this is obviously an attempt to get airplay, there are very few heavy riffs, and those there are have been stolen from Rammstein. The songs all follow the same structure; calm verse, “heavy” chorus, verse again, chorus, a stick made out of ringing power chords and finally two choruses before the song ends. Perfect example: “In My Tears” (the riff in the chorus is from Rammstein’s “Stein Um Stein”). To be fair, there is one good part on this album. The chorus on Resolution has some nice keyboard thingy that fits very nicely with the guitars. But that’s all. Oh, and the drummer also plays in Clawfinger, hahaha just kidding, that’s not a good thing…

The production is a thinner Rammstein, basically, thus reinforcing the “attempt to get airplay” theory, not much else to say.

To sum it all up, this album is manure, honestly, getting all our hopes up like this and give us “Emigrate” is a fucking crime. And I’m not talking about a cool crime like genocide or arson, this is more like embezzlement or some fucking shit like that. The only comfort is that at least there isn’t anything good that could have been used on a future Rammstein release.

Richard Z. Kruspe, ditch this shit. If my dick ever gets hard while I’m listening to this atrocity, it’s because of rigor mortis.
