Emeth: Telesis
25/07/08 || Kampfar
Emeth is a Hebrew word meaning something, a homo-erotic character from The Narnia Chronicles, and, least known, a death metal band from Belgium. Fuck the word, fuck the character even more, and let me heller tell you exactly what these Belgians are up to.
The last time I encountered Emeth, that being 2 years ago and in the form of “Reticulated”, it sounded as if they tried to be the fastest, most brutal waffle of them all, so eager they every now and then ended up making white noise. Yeah, br00tal, yah fuckwit. Anyway, at that time Aborted still churned out some wicked shit, so the Belgian throne of brutality they didn’t take, not sure about the Speedy Gonzales trophy, but fast they were. Still are, but on “Telesis” their balls have dropped, a more mature release this, one with plenty more hooks and variation. In other words, it never ends up as said noise. This is mainly because they have fine-tuned their art of song writing, this time making actual songs, but the reviewer who does not mention the fantastic production ought to have his fingers cut off.
It has a room for every little detail, holds plenty of punch, and is crystal clear yet at the same time sports an impressive bottom. An audible bass even, and that’s good, at least when knowing Erlend Caspersen is the bastard playing the damn fucker.
More name dropping, for Matty Duponte, courtesy of Aborted, is one of the dudes responsible for riffagery, the other being a Mr. Bottin, also courtesy of some bands. I have no idea who cooked up this or that, but their skills are so impressive I would let them perform a surgical operation on me, just for the heck of it. This good, still not wankers. Fucking kudos.
“Telesis” starts out incredibly strong, dips a bit, keeps on going, only towards the end showing signs of true weakness, that in the form of “The doer alone learneth and “Will to power”. While neither stands up to the rest, they are still shitty lots better than what most tech-death performers ever make. Be sure of that. Fuck you wankers, for I must also mention that Emeth of 2008 comes with some jazz. Fear not, they never jizz on you, only a tiny and tastefully added element to their music this. To nail this fucker more accurately than most reviewers could ever hope to, I only need to add that Mr. Vocalist is a 1 ½ dimensional growler with a knack for rhythm and detail.
“Telesis” is the kind of shit a basement based motherfucker into barely produced black metal hates the most. I don’t why, but it is most likely envy coupled with owning a very small penis. Or putrid cunt.
8 out of 10.
