Devious: Vision

07/10/09  ||  Lord K Philipson

I dig the moniker, for once. “It’s miiiine… My precioussss… My devioussss…”. Yeah, it sounds metal and diabolical. That is definitely a great combination when it comes to a… er… metal band playing the Devil’s music. Good work, kids. I’m fucken proud of you.

Most of the times a lousy band name goes hand in hand with what they present to us musically. So, judging by my theory – Devious should be at least decent, but most likely quite good. Then again, a fucken ugly chick can hide her most abominable features by using a shitload of make up (or a plastic bag), so my theory could mean fuck all. Theories are quite gay anyways.

No need to worry though. Devious sure got their semi technical death metal down in most areas. There’s enough catchy material to satisfy the most picky of us, enough melody to win over fans looking for something harder than yer average melodic death metal band without being devoid of melodies completely. You’ll also get enough brutality and a fine growl to go with it to still your hunger for extremities (such as your momma). As you can see, Devious are doing a good fucken job.

I don’t really know who to compare them to so you get some kind of picture of how they sound, so I won’t even try. It’s not like they do the most original version of metal out there, but something about them actually make Devious come across as a band with a somewhat “own” sound. I think alot of this is thanx to the quite impressive guitar work and innovative playing that these guys possess (just listen to some of the stuff in “False identity”, one of the highlights of the album). Adding tasteful keyboards here and there also helps. More bands need to realize that the use of keyboards, when done right, is a musical penis enlarger.

Devious are doing their shit real well and I need to check up if the Dutchmen have anything more to offer recording wise, coz this I really like. Sometimes you only need so many words to get yer point across, and the point is to check “Vision” out right the fuck away.

If I only had the inspiration and time to fire up an interview with these guys coz they sure deserve the coverage. Maybe one of these days…

My devioussss…
