Converge/Dropdead: Split

29/06/11  ||  Love Lagerkvist

While a new release from Converge might not be the most alien thing in the world, one from power-violence mainstays Dropdead certainly is. And really, what better way is there to break seven years of silence than with splitting a disc modern hardcore’s premier act? In true punk fashion, the whole album is little over three minutes, with Converge’s “Runaway” taking up most of the space. Unlike previous single “On my shield” (which is a catalyst of the bands sound), “Runaway” gives us the rawest thing the Massachusetts wizards have put out in years, showing old school, nearly crust, sensibilities with the most brutal production I’ve heard in a long while (that bass is a full on killdozer). Dropdead’s “Paths of glory” continues down the same road, delivering a one minute powerviolence punch in the balls.

8,5/10: I dare you to find something this raw and aggressive.
