Demo(n)s
Cohol: 2004

When I was in Japan playing with Dark Funeral earlier this year, I met this guy who I talked a bit to. For some reason he sent me this demo some 6 months later. Nope, he’s not even in the band, but I guess they are friends of his or something.
Only 2 tracks and an intro to dissect, I don’t know how much I can do with that, but we’ll give it a shot.
Music from Japan isn’t exactly something that usually makes me wanna blow myself. Not many things do when I think about it… But besides that… Cohol can easily be the best shit I ever heard coming from that part of the world. The sound is unfortunately pretty fucken cock, but I can still hear everything, which makes it kind of easier for me as a reviewer. I have no info whatsoever on these guys except that I was told they are a killer live-band. I wouldn’t fucken know.
What Cohol plays isn’t the easiest to categorize, but it’s damn fucken good. I can only imagine this with a killer-production and preferably another vocalist. He’s a bit too screamy for my liking… There’s a lot of stuff thrown in here, but it’s all metal in the end. Pretty brutal as well as very well-played. Some parts reminds me alot of Swedish Opeth, only not as sophisticated. We get some black metal-ish influences as well, and that doesn’t hurt a bit. These Kamikaze-pilots really seem to know their shit and these 2 songs leaves me wanting alot more. I say “2 songs” coz I don’t count the intro-thing. Alot of stuff happens within tracks as they are over 6 minutes, both of them, and it never gets boring. They have the catchy riffs together to say the least.
I want a full-length with these guys. But as mentioned, with a good production and a better singer.
Really close to 8 sushis’ out of 10.
