I love God Is An Astronaut, an instrumental band that ebbs and flows for hours on end if you let it, and that has brought me through countless assignments, chillouts, sexytimes and whatnot. Now here’s a band from Italy that loves them just as much but thought they would insert a bit of metal into the mix. Nooooooo was my reaction on reading that, but luckily the guys tone the blast beats (which they do use from time to time) down so the atmosphere retains its nice post rock flow. So it all sticks to the tried-and-tested crescendo formula, and as a result it doesn’t really matter if the most “intense” moments have a few snare beats more. In the end, this works just as well as any other given instrumental post rock album. This does not take away from the quality, but if the “black metal” elements were supposed to be a unique selling proposition, well, that didn’t go as planned. All in all, this is a very solid effort though, and fans of God Is An Astronaut, Explosions In The Sky, Caspian and maybe Isis can’t go wrong. Especially at 22 minutes playing time, this EP is a nice snack if you crave more soundwaves.

7/10: Rock solid but definitely heard before.
