Aborym: Dirty

22/07/13  ||  Cobal

Aborym have been around for about twenty years now, and still, we get their new release to be stubbed. That’s how grandiose we are, kid. Regardless and even though I’ve been aware of their existence for a fairly long time, I’ve never quite dug into their futuristic black thing. Me, I rather consider their sound an unfulfilled hybrid of raw black metal and industrial-slash-electronic music. I’ll give them this: There are some moments when things get really interesting in terms of the harmonies they develop along the album. Unfortunately, that’s about it.

To me, all songs on “Dirty” are uninteresting and disposable. Perhaps except “The Day the Sun Stopped Shining”, that is. Okay, okay. I also enjoyed their cover of “Hallowed Be Thy Name”, but that’s just because I’m vulnerable to classic songs gone extreme.

5/10: I haven’t decided whether this is not dirty enough or too dirty yet.
